Syria

A Syrian filmmaker based in Berlin, born in Homs (1981). His debut documentary Oh My Heart (2009) portrayed Kurdish women living in a society without men. His first feature, The Immortal Sergeant, premiered at the Locarno Film Festival (2014) and won Best Feature Documentary at the BBC Arabic Festival (2015). In Beirut, he directed Taste of Cement (2017), winner of the Golden Sesterce at Visions du Réel and nominee for the German Film Awards (2018). He is currently developing his next feature, Last Trip.
